Basketball has recently flourished at Cranleigh, with more fixtures than ever before. The Basketball club meets regularly during the two winter terms for practices and fixtures against schools in the local vicinity. During the Michaelmas term, squad practices are held once a week in the Trevor Abbott Sports Centre, with an hour-long session spent working on a variety of skills and tactics. In the Lent term, with official school fixtures for both Senior and Junior teams featuring regularly, training is twice a week with an experienced professional coach provided by Guildford Heat, the British Basketball League professional basketball team.
Running in parallel with the official squad practices, there is a number of weekly activity sessions run for juniors, to introduce the sport to those who may not have had the chance to play basketball previously. Activities on Monday and Wednesday afternoons during the Michaelmas term are specifically focused as an introduction to Basketball, in the hope that many will want to become further involved with the squad practises as they develop their skills at and love for the game.
