Riding

With over 50 acres of grazing and riding land, including a 60 by 40 metre floodlit all-weather arena and its own BE Standard training cross-country track, Cranleigh School’s Equestrian Centre has the capacity to accommodate up to 30 horses and ponies – mainly liveries, but also a selection of its own ponies – which means that riding is available as an activity for non-pony owners too.

Currently we have in the region of 60 boys and girls, from both the Senior and Prep Schools, who enjoy the opportunity to ride. Amongst the youngest and newest of these are some complete beginners; we then cover the whole range of abilities up to riders who are competing at Pony Club Open and even International level.

Most enjoy regular lessons, either with our home-grown instructors who run the Equestrian Centre, or with local Pony Club instructor, Sophie Spear, who trains our team riders.Riding takes place during activity sessions and is not a substitute for the major games; riders with their own pony at school could therefore expect to ride between four and five times a week.

All riders, whether they have their own pony or not and once they have reached the required standard, will be given the opportunity to experience our show jumping and cross country facilities.

We have been competing very successfully against some of the biggest equestrian schools in the country for the last few years, and our riding teams, from Mini to Open, continue to go from strength to strength in all disciplines.

Sport_ridingIn 2005 and 2007 we produced the National Schools’ Novice Individual Champions and in 2007 and 2008 the National Schools’ Open Individual Champion; in addition our team placings at all levels have made us one of the most successful schools at the National Schools Equestrian Association Finals in the last two years.

The way ahead looks very exciting for our riders.
