The National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) National Championships returns to a newly refurbished Addington Equestrian this October and Cranleigh riders started their campaign to get there over half term. The Novice Combined Training team, who have to ride a dressage test and a round of show jumping, won their qualifier, with Madeleine R. picking up an individual qualification place too. Yasmeen AZ. and Rosie S. came individually 3rd and 4th to give the team, which also included Tabitha L., a clear victory. They followed this with a second place in their pure show jumping qualifier to add another national qualification.
The Open team of Issy H., Katie C., Lucy B. and Madeleine R. then took another second place against some strong teams to pick up their first qualification for Addington as well as qualifying for the Hickstead Elite final in August. Katie and Lucy then rode excellent double clears in the Advanced Open class, finishing in 3rd and 4th respectively and just missing out on qualifications for Hickstead. It is always good to get a few early qualifications in place and the show jumpers will be out again on Saturday to try to add to this.
On the first Sunday of half term the dressage teams retained their Surrey County title for the seventh year in a row. It was a slightly nail biting wait for the result of our final rider but in the end it was a clear win for Cranleigh, with the team of Madeleine R, Yasmeen AZ., and Issy H. taking the win, 0.5% ahead of our second team of Tara M., Katie C., Issy H. and Madeleine R.
To cap a fine day we also took third place with the team of Rory S., Lucy LM. and Tara M. Our team will now represent Surrey at the NSEA National County Championships at Hickstead in May, where we will also be the Surrey representatives in the Mini and Intermediate Show Jumping.
