Over Long Leave Sammy D. played for England under 18s against both France and Belgium over in Calais. The first game saw England take control in the first quarter but the French defended well to protect their goal. England then countered to take a one goal lead into half time. A goal apiece in the third quarter made it 2-1 and another goal each at the start of the fourth quarter including one from Sammy left it 3-2. France then took off their goalkeeper with three minutes to go in search of a draw but England scored two goals to run out 5-2 winners.
The second match against Belgium was always going to be tougher and so it turned out. A thrilling game in which Sammy was made captain started with a goalless first quarter. The Belgians scored first in the second quarter, England equalised but Belgium scored two more to lead 3-1 at half time. England had a very strong third quarter scoring three unanswered goals to lead 4-3. The Belgians then took the lead with two goals but a late short corner earned England an excellent 5-5 draw. England won the penalty shuffle shootout to round off a great weekend.
Following this weekend Sammy has been selected for a series against the Germans and most importantly for the Euros in July also being held in Germany.
In the England under 16 squad, Matt H. has been selected for the series against Scotland in Glasgow; Louis P. has been selected for the trip to Germany in Berlin and both of them have been selected for the Euros in Spain.
On the girl’s side, Charlotte B. has been selected for Scotland under 18s in their series against England in Glasgow after which the squad for the Euros will be finalised.
We wish them all the best in their forthcoming matches.
Mr Richard Organ
