The girls’ hockey teams faced an intense set of matches against Epsom, with six games ending in draws across the club. A standout performance came from the 3rd XI, who secured a dominant 8-0 victory, while the 2nd team drew 1-1. Though the 1st and 16A teams were defeated, they are sure to bounce back stronger. The 15A’s delivered a brilliant 2-1 win, and the entire U15 age group remained unbeaten, with victories for the 15A and 15B teams, and draws for the C and D teams. The 14A’s also impressed, earning a draw in a hard-fought match.

In rugby, the club triumphed in 12 out of 15 matches. The 14C’s delivered a remarkable 52-5 win, and the 15A’s secured a narrow 14-0 victory. The Senior teams were successful across the board, with the 5th XV winning 24-15 away against Eton. Several teams made strong cases for “Team of the Week” honors, including the 15A & B rugby teams, the 3rd XI girls’ hockey team, and the 14C rugby side. However, this week’s accolades go to the golf team, who competed on Thursday last week in the West Sussex GC Schools Invitation event and brought home the first trophy of the term. From a field of 16 schools, both Cranleigh pairs performed outstandingly, winning the team handicap prize with 65 points. The winning team featured James M., James R., Jack H., and Jonny S.—marking Cranleigh’s first win in this event since 2010.

The second “Team of the Week” award goes to the 1st XV rugby side, who delivered a stunning 63-7 victory against Trinity School, Croydon. This was a fantastic result against a team featuring several high-calibre players, making Cranleigh’s dominant performance all the more impressive.

On the individual front, we celebrate Joe T. (Upper Sixth, Loveday), who has been selected for the U18 backs rugby camp in two weeks, and Sam Y. (Lower Fifth, North), who won Silver in the Target Sprint National Final, narrowly missing out on Gold to a Team GB athlete. Sam has since been invited to join the Team GB pathway training program. Sam F. and Dom P. also delivered strong performances, qualifying for the final. In hockey, Alec C-J., Matt H., and Louis P. advanced to the next stage of the England U18 hockey trials. Additionally, congratulations go to Molly A., Izzy B., Luisa C., Roxy L., Daisy M., and Kitty S., who were all selected for the Guildford TA hockey squads this season.

This past week also saw some excellent midweek performances: the golf team competed in the Smarden Bell, the 1st team netball played against Frensham Heights, and the swimming team faced Bradfield in their first gala of the season. The 1st VII netball team kicked off their cup campaign with a commanding performance, showcasing accuracy and coordination in their attacking play, as well as relentless defensive pressure that led to crucial turnovers. We eagerly await their next cup round, alongside the U14s, who begin their own cup journey next week.

The swimming team delivered a strong 143-89 victory against Bradfield, with notable improvements from swimmers such as Benji W. and Felix B. Polly F. (Fourth Form) also made a significant contribution in what was an outstanding team effort so early in the season. The U14A girls’ hockey team added to the week’s successes with a brilliant 10-0 win against Charterhouse in their cup game, advancing them to the next round.

Looking ahead to Saturday, we have a full schedule of matches and training sessions. On Sunday, over 250 U11 and U13 club rugby players will join us for a tournament, which promises to be a fun-filled day.
